Salubrious Sandwiching for the Sagacious

Postby Starky » Wed Jun 15, 2016 10:03 am

Not an 18th-century cookbook fortunately.

Taking sandwiches to work in Ramadan in these parts is necessary (if you want lunch) because everywhere's shut, but at other times it's encouraged also for a few reasons, mainly taste, monies and health.

I want to kick off with anchovies. We all love a good bit of oily fish, but anchovies in particular can be difficult to get right in a sandwich. The traditional example anchovy sandwich on crusty white bread with capers, garlic sauce, tomato and basil I find quite difficult to stomach before mid afternoon to be quite honest. I'm not one for massive flavours at lunch: canned filleted anchovies (I prefer Spanish but this might just be psychological) are very lightly washed in a sieve under the cold tap and any big clumps of bone removed, then laid out thinly on wholemeal bread spread with a bit of real lemon mayonnaise (you can just add lemon juice to bog standard mayo though) and topped with cibies or fairly finely chopped red onion depending on the season. My half-awake palate finds the result delicious rather than destructive.

What sandwiches do you like and dislike? Have any winning combinations you want to share?

True, but we sadly don't have a "Furious Masturbation" forum.

Brainwave: we should have a "Furious Masturbation" forum.

In the supermarket you have class one, two or class three eggs and some are more expensive than others and some give you better omelettes. So when the class one eggs are in Waitrose and you cannot go there, you have a problem.

I am always deeply impressed by Lidl. I'm slightly coming around the fact that their tools aren't fantastically good but I like impulse buying the odd power tool.
I am either ridiculously impressed with voice recognition or completely baffled.

"Dive Source SCUBA Watersports" Did you mean, Dinosaurs School for Watersports?

No. But please take me there, smartphone.

We see this kind of shit in Wales all the time.

I like this. I like how you handled this. You could've come right out and been "Some guy cunted that sheep," but you went subtle.

Power tools and home accessories from Lidl have to be up there among the best impulse buys. I'd add car stuff to the list if I had a car as well probably.
